The need for age/weight-adapted feeds

Nutrient requirements differ between younger and older children; therefore Nutricia has designed feeds to meet the needs of these groups (by age/weight). A study by Evans et al. investigated formula suitability for children aged 7-12 years on home enteral tube feeding by comparing the nutrient intake of three different feeds; a paediatric feed (PF) for 1-6 year olds (9-20kg bodyweight), an adult feed (AF), and a feed (NutriniMax) for children aged 7-12 years (21-45kg body weight).[1]

Short bowel syndrome (SBS) is the consequence of massive small-bowel resection  resulting in severe nutrient malabsorption that occurs due to loss of mucosal surface area.[1] It is seen after surgical intervention for long-segment necrotising enterocolitis, mitgut volvulus, acute ischemic injury, small-bowel aganglionosis and other conditions involving the small bowel.[1]
