Some context…

Up to 65% of patients experience weight loss at their first oncology visit1 which is associated with lower tolerance to treatment and poorer prognosis2,3.

Current ESPEN and ESMO guidelines recommend screening for nutritional risk from diagnosis of cancer AND early nutritional intervention to support patient outcomes4,5. However, many aspects of the guidelines are not yet sufficiently implemented in clinical practice.

This year’s symposium is focused on the optimization of nutritional care in oncology and aim to bridge the gap between research and clinical implementation, advocating for sustainable and equitable access to nutritional care:

Prof. Carla Prado

Welcome & Introduction

Prof. Carla Prado will discuss the significance of nutrition in cancer care, highlighting key statistics on malnutrition prevalence and the role of dietitians in driving change.

Prof. Riccardo Caccialanza

Medical Nutrition in Oncology: A case for change to address unmet needs

Prof. Riccardo Caccialanza will present a case for addressing unmet nutritional needs in cancer care, emphasizing early screening and interventions, and the momentum for change in Italy - placing the “Lombardy pathway” in the spotlight.

Prof. Diana Cardenas

Nutritional Care as a Patient Right: Improving treatment outcomes through data-driven strategies

Prof. Diana Cardenas will explore the concept of nutritional care as a patient right, discussing gaps in current practices and how data-driven strategies can improve treatment outcomes. The audience will also get insights into ways of working at the Gustave Roussy Cancer Center.
