Nutricia pioneers its first medical nutrition drink for pediatric patients with real fruit and vegetable ingredients

Amsterdam, The Netherlands - Oct 17, 2023

  • Up to 1 out of 2 hospitalized children are malnourished1.
  • When children's growth is delayed due to a disease or a specific condition, medical nutrition can help meet the high nutritional needs that cannot be met through normal food alone, supporting younger patients’ growth and development outcomes.
  • Yet a lack of familiarity and similarity to a real food diet can feel alienating for both younger patients and parents.
  • Created together with parents and younger patients Nutricia’s Fortini + Mix Multi Fibre is a new oral nutritional supplement (ONS) for catch-up growth with a balanced mix of real fruit and vegetable ingredients* and with a mild taste liked by younger patient.

Today Nutricia, part of leading global food and beverage company Danone, announces the launch of its first medical nutrition drink with a balanced mix of real fruit and vegetable ingredients, specifically formulated for the dietary management of disease-related malnutrition and faltering growth in pediatric patients. It is ready to drink and nutritionally complete, with ingredients derived from natural origin, providing 1/3 of the recommended daily intake of fruits and vegetables2.

Co-created with parents and younger patients Fortini + Mix Multi Fibre is an innovative and unique product within the "Fortini" pediatric feed range3. With the launch of Fortini + Mix Multi Fibre, Nutricia builds on its expertise in medical nutrition solutions that support children with a wide range of medical conditions to grow and develop as well as possible. This launch comes at a time when parents and healthcare professionals are looking for more natural options when there is a specific nutritional need to be addressed4.

“We know the role that food plays, not only in terms of health, but also socially and emotionally. And this is no exception for younger patients with specific medical nutritional needs. When nutritional intervention is needed, the lack of naturalness can be frustrating for both younger patients and their parents”, says June Zhang VP Categories, Brands and Innovation Specialized Nutrition at Danone. "We are pleased to pioneer our first medical nutrition drink with a balance of real fruit and vegetable ingredients, empowering patients’ needs, Healthcare Professionals recommendations and parental wishes.”

Fortini + Mix Multi Fibre is now available in The Netherlands, Denmark, Finland and Sweden, providing healthcare professionals with more options alongside the existing pediatric range of Fortini.

Fortini + Mix Multi Fibre is a Food for Special Medical Purposes for the dietary management of disease related malnutrition. It must be used under medical supervision.
