Dr. Florian Scotté discussed the evolving landscape of cancer treatment, emphasizing the growing integration of personalized care and the crucial role of nutritional support, as a key component of supportive care, in improving patient outcomes. He highlighted the high prevalence of malnutrition in patients with cancer and reviewed evidence showing its negative impact on treatment tolerance, toxicity, survival, and quality of life.
Dr. Maurizio Muscaritoli discussed the significant impact of cancer on nutritional status and body composition, emphasizing how cancer-related malnutrition adversely affects treatment toxicity and survival. He highlighted lack of awareness among healthcare providers regarding the negative effects of malnutrition, which represents an unmet need in clinical practice.
Dr. Muscaritoli introduced the novel PRONTO protocol, quick and easy tool designed for oncologists to identify patients at risk of malnutrition for further evaluation and follow-up.
Finally, he shared clinical evidence demonstrating that early, assertive nutritional interventions can improve treatment tolerance and survival outcomes in patients with cancer.
